John-David (JD) Longwell

Whether in his role as a professional mediator or as an Integral Coach, JD brings practical, real-world experience to clients in his local community and across the globe.  His negotiation skills were developed over the course of 30 years as a corporate executive, guiding teams of professionals around the world and managing a significant portfolio of trade-related assets for financial institutions and companies.

His professional path, however, began more modestly as a Peace Corps Volunteer and trainer in the 1970s. It was during those early years that he cultivated a passion for working with people of varied cultural and economic backgrounds. After integrating that background and experience into his corporate career he eventually left that world in 2014 and began studying to become a professional mediator and coach.  Since then, he has completed several advanced trainings that have qualified him as a professional mediator with the Mediation Association of Colorado and acceptance by the Colorado Office of Dispute Resolution (ODR) as a contract mediator for the 7th and 12th Judicial Districts (Gunnison, Montrose, Delta, San Miguel, Ouray and Hinsdale, Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache Counties). Over the years, he has mediated over 600 cases involving divorce, parenting plans, contract disputes, construction disputes, landlord-tenant issues, and HOA disputes.

Along with his passion for mediation, JD has also cultivated his interest in Personal Growth and Development which led to his certification as a Professional Coach through Integral Coaching Canada. JD’s coaching offers a holistic approach to clients that integrates emotional intelligence, physical health, spiritual practice and community awareness and interaction.  This approach considers the whole person with a systematic and integrated way of assessment that allows for a unique and personalized program for each client.  JD coaches people of all ages. Based on his own interpersonal work– particularly through the Mankind Project – JD has a keen interest in exploring the unique challenges facing men and boys in the 21st century.

A life-long learner, JD continues to explore opportunities to deepen his skills and awareness with the goal of bringing practical, effective and lasting changes to clients’ lives.

“I worked with JD for several months and found him to be a very effective coach. He was easy to talk to, made me feel respected, and he really listened to me. He introduced a very comprehensive program with a number of exercises that felt relevant and specific to my individual needs. Overall, I found the experience valuable and continue to use the practices JD developed for me on an (almost) daily basis.”
